IT’S TIME FOR VIETNAMESE DESIGN TO DEFINE ITS OWN IDENTITY – WITH A DISTINCTLY VIETNAMESE SPIRIT

Vietnam is not lacking in talent. Nor is it short on ambition. What the country truly needs is a strong ecosystem that can nurture and elevate creative values rooted in its own unique cultural identity. That is why Viglacera proudly partners with the Vietnamese community of architects and designers in shaping Trend 26+—a publication that defines trends in modern, sustainable, and human-centered living spaces.

Vietnamese people have long excelled in the art of learning and seamlessly integrating global philosophies. While Vietnam may not often be seen as the birthplace of world-shaping theories, it has an exceptional ability to synthesize, localize, and transform global values into a distinct cultural signature.

However, what sometimes causes us to miss opportunities in global design trends is not a lack of talent, but rather a tendency toward complacency and a short-term mindset. To truly create Vietnamese-style design trends, we need a generation with inner strength, systemic thinking, and unwavering commitment—backed by a synchronized policy framework that systematically supports and protects creative endeavors.

A Fusion of Creativity and Tradition – The Bát Tràng Ceramic Center

This is a journey to build “happy architecture,” where 1 + 1 > 2. Each individual in the creative field must be an independent “1”—technically competent, professionally ethical, socially responsible, and unapologetically authentic. But being excellent in isolation is not enough. It takes synergy between these individual "1s" to generate a collective power that surpasses personal limitations. This synergy can only emerge from authentic interaction—where identities are not lost, but rather amplified, complemented, and co-created.

This spirit is not new. Back in the 1920s and 1930s, pioneering Vietnamese architects such as Nguyễn Cao Luyện, Hoàng Như Tiếp, and Nguyễn Gia Đức initiated the “House of Light” movement—an early push toward climate-appropriate modern architecture, laying the groundwork for socially-conscious design thinking. In the 1940s, painter Trịnh Hữu Ngọc founded Memo, Vietnam’s first interior design studio. By the 1960s, Vietnamese engineer Quasar Khánh made waves in Europe with his line of inflatable furniture.

During the 1960s and 1970s, architects like Nguyễn Hữu Thiện, Ngô Viết Thụ, and Bùi Quang Hanh delivered modern architectural works deeply infused with Vietnamese spirit. Today, a new generation of Vietnamese architects is continuing that legacy—entering the global stage with bold cultural signatures and earning prestigious international awards.

These achievements prove one thing: Vietnam has no shortage of talent or inspiration—only a need for the right ecosystem. When supported by a well-integrated foundation, Vietnamese creativity will not merely follow trends—it will set them. The values rooted in Vietnamese spirit will earn their rightful place on the global design map.

Trend 26+ represents a collective effort to realize this vision—a platform where ideas, products, and people come together to ignite creativity with a Vietnamese soul.

On this journey, Viglacera—a National Brand and pioneer in green building materials and sustainable development—is proud to stand alongside Vietnam’s architectural and design community. Viglacera is not only offering modern material solutions, but also promoting a mindset of mastery in technology and design thinking.

Advanced manufacturing technology such as Sacmi Continua+ enables the creation of ultra-thin slabs with full-body veining—easily shaped into elegant curves for features like oval dining tables or soft-edge bar counters.

Viglacera’s autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) offers exceptional insulation, fire resistance, and structural lightness, making it an eco-friendly alternative to traditional bricks. The ALC panel system provides fast, precise, and sustainable wall assembly—suitable for both residential and industrial construction.
