On December 12, 2024, in Havana, Cuba, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Chairman of the Board of Viglacera Corporation – JSC, held a formal meeting with H.E. Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba.
Reporting to President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan highlighted that after six years of operation, the ViMariel Industrial Park invested by Viglacera in the Mariel Special Development Zone has actively supported industrial production, fulfilled Cuba’s domestic market needs, and created more jobs for Cuban workers.

In addition to ViMariel, since November 2019, Viglacera has co-invested in the SanVig Joint Venture, specializing in building materials production. SanVig not only supplies the local Cuban market but also contributes to the construction industry’s development and generates foreign exchange through exports.
ViMariel Industrial Park is Cuba’s first time-bound concession project awarded to a 100% foreign-owned enterprise.
During the meeting, President Díaz-Canel warmly welcomed Viglacera and Vietnamese businesses investing and collaborating in Cuba. He reaffirmed the close and sincere friendship between Vietnam and Cuba and emphasized that both governments strongly support business and investment cooperation between enterprises from the two countries.
Following the visit by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam to Cuba in October 2024, Viglacera has actively advanced its investment and cooperation activities in the country. In addition to industrial zones and building materials, Viglacera is exploring cooperation in pharmaceuticals—especially biotechnology—as a new direction. Together with GELEX Group, Viglacera is also supporting Cuba in agriculture, energy, and technology sectors.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan expressed his deep appreciation to President Díaz-Canel for the Cuban Government’s ongoing support of GELEX and Viglacera operations in Cuba. He conveyed strong confidence in the business and investment prospects in Cuba and proposed several initiatives to enhance bilateral cooperation between Vietnamese and Cuban enterprises.
Vietnam is currently Cuba’s second-largest Asian trade partner and the largest Asian foreign investor, with six projects underway.
Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to welcoming and supporting Vietnamese investors. The Cuban Government is determined to establish mechanisms and solutions that create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises operating in the country.
